Aleppo governor says security returning after YPG/SDF withdrew
In a message to residents, Azzam al-Gharib stated: “The security situation is witnessing a gradual return to stability in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, so that the city may return to a state of safety and stability.” He added that “the page of anxiety has been turned,” stressing that Aleppo “has returned safe with its people—strong in their unity and fortified by their will.”
Authorities are continuing efforts to reinforce security and restore normalcy across all neighborhoods. The evacuation of the final YPG/SDF groups from Sheikh Maqsoud was carried out using buses and ambulances, with additional transfers from Yasin Hospital. Syrian state media confirmed these were the last fighters to leave, placing the districts under full control of the Syrian Army.
The militants were relocated to Tabqa, west of the Euphrates River, which remains under YPG/SDF control. Military operations in Sheikh Maqsoud were officially halted Saturday afternoon.
Officials reported that in recent days, YPG/SDF attacks had struck residential areas, public facilities, and army positions, resulting in 23 deaths, more than 100 injuries, and the displacement of roughly 165,000 residents from Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud.
